Bellingham The Bernard Series Small Barrel S.M.V. is a premium South African red wine that pays tribute to Bernard Podlashuk, the visionary co-founder of Bellingham Wines. Produced in the Coastal Region from carefully selected vineyards in Voor-Paardeberg/Paarl, this Rhône-inspired blend showcases the classic partnership of Shiraz (Syrah), Mourvèdre, and Viognier (S.M.V.), delivering remarkable complexity, structure, and elegance.

The blend is Shiraz-led, with smaller portions of Mourvèdre and Viognier co-fermented to enhance aromatic lift, color stability, and texture. The grapes are hand-harvested from low-yielding vineyards planted on decomposed granite and clay soils before being matured in French oak barrels for approximately 14–18 months, producing a wine that balances richness with finesse.

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Deep ruby with a bright crimson rim.

NOSE:
Expressive aromas of black cherry, blackberry, red berries, dark chocolate, winter spices, vanilla, violets, and rose petals, complemented by subtle smoky oak and hints of black pepper.

TASTE:
Full-bodied and beautifully structured, offering concentrated flavors of ripe black fruits, cherry, plum, dark chocolate, licorice, and baking spices. Fine-grained tannins, balanced acidity, and integrated oak create a wine that is both powerful and graceful.

FINISH:
Long, smooth, and persistent, with lingering notes of dark fruit, spice, cocoa, and floral nuances.
