Jonata Fénix – Santa Ynez Valley is a flagship Bordeaux-style red blend from the highly acclaimed Jonata estate in Ballard Canyon, Santa Ynez Valley, California. Produced by winemaker Matt Dees, this wine is part of Jonata’s premium lineup under the same ownership group associated with some of California’s most prestigious estates.

Fénix (meaning “phoenix”) is primarily built around Merlot, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot depending on the vintage. The estate’s gravelly, sandy soils and cool coastal influence from Santa Barbara County produce wines with remarkable intensity, precision, and aging potential. Across vintages, Fénix is known for its combination of plush California fruit and serious Bordeaux-like structure.

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Deep inky purple with a dense, almost opaque core.

NOSE:
Highly expressive and layered, showing blackberry, black cherry, plum, and cassis, along with notes of cocoa, espresso, violets, crushed herbs, and subtle graphite. Some vintages show hints of menthol, cedar, and earthy truffle.

TASTE:
Full-bodied and powerful, yet finely structured. Rich dark fruit is framed by polished but firm tannins and bright acidity. The Merlot-driven core gives a plush, velvety texture, while Cabernet components add structure, spice, and savory depth. Flavors of black plum, mocha, baking spice, and dark chocolate evolve with air.

FINISH:
Long, concentrated, and persistent, with lingering dark berries, espresso, cocoa powder, and mineral tension.
