This release from Willowbank is Batch 2 of an 18-year-old blended (or blended malt) whisky independently bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company. It is drawn from the now-closed Willowbank Distillery in New Zealand, matured for 18 years and finished (or matured) in ex-red-wine casks.
Bottled at an ABV of 50.5%, with a limited outturn of 506 bottles.
The wine-cask maturation imparts a deeply fruity, rich character — and the fact that the distillery is no longer operating adds to its appeal for collectors and aficionados alike.

Tasting Notes
NOSE:
A luscious mix of dark berries (blackcurrant, blackberry, elderberry) meets polished old wood and subtle savoury elements; touches of cinnamon spice, balsa-wood, and a faint hint of wood-glue or polishing wax give it a characterful edge.
TASTE:
Medium-bodied, sweet dark fruits (plum sauce, black cherries), layered with dark chocolate, a little liquorice root, and a woody tannic structure; five-spice powder and subtle forest-under-growth earthiness make an appearance.
FINISH:
Long, drying, with persistent tannins leaving an echo of black fruits, liquorice, a hint of espresso/coffee bitterness and woody dryness.
