Veyder-Malberg Hochrain is a distinguished Austrian white wine from the renowned Wachau region, crafted by visionary winemaker Peter Veyder-Malberg. Sourced from the historic Hochrain vineyard in Weißenkirchen, this wine is made from 100% Grüner Veltliner and exemplifies the producer's philosophy of minimal intervention and uncompromising terroir expression.

The Hochrain vineyard sits on steep terraces overlooking the Danube and is characterized by a complex mix of loess, weathered gneiss, and primary rock soils, which contribute both richness and mineral precision to the wine. Peter Veyder-Malberg employs sustainable viticulture, hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and extended lees aging to create wines of remarkable depth, texture, and elegance.

Compared to the more austere and mineral-driven Bruck, Hochrain often displays a broader, more generous texture while maintaining the freshness and energy that define the finest Wachau Grüner Veltliners.

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Brilliant pale gold with green and silver reflections.

NOSE:
Elegant and complex aromas of green apple, ripe pear, yellow plum, white peach, citrus zest, white pepper, chamomile, fresh herbs, and subtle notes of crushed stone and smoke.

TASTE:
Medium to full-bodied with impressive concentration and texture. Flavors of orchard fruits, lemon, quince, and stone fruit are layered with classic Grüner Veltliner notes of white pepper, fennel, and herbal spice.
