Description

Villota Viña Gena Rioja is a prestigious Spanish red wine from Rioja Alavesa, produced by the Pérez Villota family at their historic Meandro de San Rafael estate. Viña Gena comes from the estate's oldest vineyard, planted in 1930, and is Villota's first wine to receive the official Viñedo Singular classification, Rioja's designation for particularly distinguished single-vineyard sites.

Made from 100% Tempranillo, the wine comes from a low-yielding old-vine parcel between the Ebro River and an original holm-oak forest. The sandy, clay-rich soils and mature vines produce a wine focused on finesse, aromatic detail, and longevity rather than sheer power.

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Clear, bright garnet red.

NOSE:
Highly aromatic, with expressive notes of wild rose, violet, cherry, and redcurrant, complemented by subtle pastry, spice, and balsamic nuances.

TASTE:
Elegant and silky, with a concentrated yet graceful core of red fruit. Cherry and redcurrant are supported by beautifully polished tannins and fresh balsamic character. The wine is balanced, savoury, and refined, with excellent texture and depth.

FINISH:
Long, persistent, and exceptionally polished, with lingering red fruit, floral, balsamic, and subtle spice notes. The wine has considerable ageing potential.
